NEW Outdoor Mask Mandate - COVID-19

COVID-19 Update – NEW Outdoor Mask Mandate [8/30/2021]

We received some updated communication from the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA).

The following are the latest OHA clarifications pursuant to (OAR 333-019-1025).  The Governor’s new statewide outdoor mask mandate is effective August 27, 2021, and requires masks for all individuals, regardless of vaccination status, in outdoor settings where individuals from different households cannot consistently maintain physical distance.

The Sherwood Youth Soccer Club (SYSC) will adhere to these guidelines, requesting that coaches, players, and families follow the outdoor masking mandate while attending SYSC sponsored activities until further notice in accordance to the guidelines set forth by Oregon Health Association, OSAA, Oregon Youth Soccer Association (OYSA), Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District (THPRD), and Tualatin Hills Junior Soccer League (THJSL). These entities have reviewed, updated, and communicated the guidelines to all affiliate sports clubs.

  • Players are not required to wear a mask indoors or outdoors when practicing or playing a competitive sport at any level.

  • Players not actively participating (i.e., on the sideline during an indoor or outdoor competition, etc.) are required to wear a mask.

  • Coaches, volunteers, and support staff, regardless of vaccination status, are required to wear a mask during outdoor practices and competitions when 6’ of physical distance cannot be maintained.

  • Spectators (5 years or older) are required to wear a mask, regardless of vaccination status, at outdoor practices and competitions when 6’ of physical distance cannot be maintained.

Compliance Monitoring – SYSC will not conduct any COVID Monitoring, Contact Tracing, and Daily Monitoring at this time.

The previous requirements for players and coaches diagnosed with COVID or exposed remain in effect.

We will provide additional guidance regarding hosting games and opponents/visitors, addressing additional mitigation policies for face coverings and contact tracing following the league’s guidelines.

Communication when Hosting Events and Adhering to Host School Policies

Hosting OSAA member schools must communicate with their opponent about any more restrictive measures in place locally prior to the opponent traveling to the host site.  Note that a school, county, or facility may institute more restrictive requirements. A visiting school and its supporters must adhere to the more restrictive measures in place from their hosting opponent.

SYSC will continue to comply with national, state, and local COVID guidelines for all safety. We will continue to monitor the situation and communicate any additional updates as soon as they become available.
